Week 7 Story: The Real Story of the Lovers' Leap
A long time ago lived a girl and a boy who were madly in love. But, like Romeo and Juliet, their families did not accept their love and forced them apart. This was due to the ancient family feud between the families (but that is another story).
Of course, the lovers tried to sneak out and see each other, but they were always caught. They were miserable without each other!
One day, they snuck out again and met in the woods. Just as they ran into each other's embrace, they heard shouting from not far away. They bolted together, trying to have a few more moments together. It was then that they decided to just wait patiently for the right moment. They stopped and kissed just as both fathers yanked them away.
Days, months, and years went by as the lovers patiently waited for the right time to escape. It was on day 1982 that the girl's father thought she had forgotten about the boy.
In celebration, he decided to throw a feast! He wanted to invite all of the other noble men in the town so that she may choose one to marry. The lovers knew that this was their perfect moment.
As the sun began to set, the boy (and his horse) had gone to their special spot in the woods and the girl began to make her way to the edge of the party. When it was just dark enough, the girl began to walk away quietly before sprinting to get to her true love.
It had worked! They fell into each other's embrace again, crying tears of joy. However, it was then when the girl's father's servant spotted them and yelled for the party to help stop them.
The two lovers quickly mounted on the horse and rode away. It didn't take long for the mob to catch up behind them on horseback.
The mob was inching closer and closer and the lovers were running out of land. They were headed towards a chasm that fell to certain death. The lovers knew they had no choice but to make the jump.
The mob yelled at them to halt as they approached the drop-off, but the lovers only went faster. Off they leapt from that forsaken side of the mountain to land on the other side without harm.
Everyone was in disbelief, but the lovers continued riding into their happily ever after.
And that is the real story of Lover's Leap.
Hi Libby! As I was reading your story, I was so fearful that the lovers would die and the story would end in a tragedy. After reading the ending I was so happy they ended up alive! I really liked your alternate ending. Writing is so much fun because we are able to create the endings we personally want. I love the classic Romeo and Juliet love stories, where two lovers have to run away and sacrifice everything to be together. I think a perfect addition to this story would be to add more information about the "Lover's Leap" in Laos. I would also love to hear more about the couple and how they lived after the jump!
ReplyDeleteHey Libby, thank you for a happy ending! I have always enjoyed remakes/retellings of the classic Romeo and Juliet. I actually directed a University Sing show based off of that! I think you captured the love between the 2 and also their excited/fear whenever they would sneak out. I really didn't know what was going to happen when they were riding towards the cliff and then had jumped, but I'm glad you had them land safe and carry on with their love story.

The classic Romeo and Juliet love story was definitely captured within this short story- but with the addition of the explanation of 'Lovers Leap'. I'm happy the couple ended up together despite their families disapproval. Great job with this story and your upcoming stories/project in the future!

ReplyDeleteI love the romance story! This was a very well written story and I loved reading it! I loved the sneaking out of the house portion of the story that makes most readers think about high school times. This also made me think of the notebook a little based on the large amount of time that the two were apart. I really did love this story and it was very well written.
Hi Libby, I like to change endings to be happier as well. It is always so sad when the entire story is sad and then just ends in such an awful way. The poor lovers deserved to make the leap. You did a great job of capturing the entire story in a straightforward way. I loved the picture you used and it provides an idea for how far a leap might have been.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you chose to not let the lovers die. As I was reading, I felt myself on the edge of my seat wondering if this was where they would die together like in Romeo and Juliet. I think you wrote the story to where it flowed very nicely. Good job with that! I also love how you ended the story with saying that is the real story of the Lover's Leap.
